How to Cleanse Your Home for the Spring Equinox

It's that time of the year again. Spring has sprung and it’s time to let the stale air, dust and winter stagnation out. You can break out the heavy-duty cleaning equipment or call in a cleaning service. That takes care of the physical spring cleaning, but what about the energetic spring cleaning. Reenergizing your home or other sacred places is a practice that is just as important as the mopping, dusting, and washing. By joining the two, you can enter into a new year with a clearer mind, more peaceful spirit and, tidier home. At La Nirvana, we want to help you restore and maintain the energetic balance in your home. Here are some of our suggestions for cleansing your home.

Old Customs

I have older relatives that would sprinkle salt on the floor before sweeping to maintain harmony and balance. I’ve recently read about sweeping salt along with herbs (rosemary, mint, juniper, etc.) to enhance this ancient cleansing practice. Noise or sound is another age-old custom. Do you like to turn on the radio, spin a record or queue up your mobile device while you scrub, vacuum, dust, etc.? The vibrations are beneficial to the energy of the house or space. The right music can rock those negative vibes right on out the windows, not to mention that it makes the work go faster.

The La Nirvana Way

Because we’re all about helping you energize your life and the spaces you inhabit, we wanted to share a few ways you can use our Home Sweet Home Cleansing Box to cleanse your home in preparation for the Spring Equinox or any other milestone you deem necessary--even if it is just Monday.

Get Lit

The fire element symbolizes transformation, creation, and destruction, As you go about clearing your home or another space, you will need the energy of this element to set the stage for what is to come. To activate or invoke this energy in your home, set your intentions for your home and light a Master Healer. You can do a candle meditation if you like or you can move on to the next element in your cleansing kit.

Smoke Something

The air element represents new life and your vital breath. As air is an invisible force, it reminds us that there is more to life than just the things we can see. Lighting a smudge stick will satisfy this element. Allow the purifying smoke to fill the air and clear away old ways of thinking and making space for new and improved more positive and intentional mental processes. To bring the fluid and coolness of the water element, have your abalone shell on hand as you smudge your home. Water symbolizes the subconscious that is always moving and purification.

Get Crystal Clear

Your healing crystals are the manifestations of the earth element. Use your clear quartz to represent the earth and focus you on grounding in the present moment and in the steadfastness of the Earth. The earth is our foundation, it represents abundance and fertility, which is our ability to birth ourselves over and over again. Taking a moment to meditate with your quartz and give it your intentions for the space will help to amplify it and manifest your intentions. So, be clear about what you want in your home and focus on that.

The combining of these four elements, earth, fire, air, and water, with your own spirit allows you to take a more holistic approach to your home and your home life. You have the ability to change things and birth a new day, a new you, a new atmosphere. So as you go about clearing your home this Spring, remember that home is your base camp and you deserve to be comfortable and nurtured in that space. One of the greatest things about having an energetically sound home is that when others enter, they feel it too, which causes little ripples. It’s a benefit to you and all who enter. Be well. Peace & Blessings!
